The FC Barcelona duo meet in a World Cup qualifier, but the idea that they will warm-up together was only suggested in jest
Neymar Jr’s Brazil are in action against Luis Suárez’s Uruguay in a huge World Cup 2018 qualification game this evening at 1.45am CET (9.45pm locally) in Recife. Uruguay are currently second to Ecuador in the South American zone with 9 points, while Brazil are fifth with 7, and this is the last of the first set of five games in CONMEBOL this week, after Argentina beat Chile 2-1 on Thursday in another game with Barça interest on both sides.
All eyes will be on Suárez as he returns to competitive international duty for the first time since his suspension at the 2014 World Cup. “I always work with the same attitude” he said before the game. “That’s how I play, but with moderation like I’ve been doing until now. I have to enjoy playing for my country again and feeling the affection of the fans.”
As for playing against his club colleague Neymar, he adds that “we always warm up together at Barça and we’ve said that we’ll do the same for this game.”
However, Neymar himself laughingly denied the rumour, saying that “this time we will not be warning up together, that’s impossible! But I have a great friendship with Suárez and with Messi too. We understand each other on and off the pitch and always want to help each other.”
