Arsene Wenger has condemned a section of Arsenal’s support for creating a ‘sceptical environment’ during the Gunners’ title run-in.
The Gunners were top of the Premier League in the middle of January but one win in eight in all competitions saw Arsenal’s season collapse.
Wenger’s side are 11 points behind leaders Leicester City with eight games remaining and a section of the club’s fans turned against the Frenchman earlier this month during the side’s 4-0 win against Hull City.
Despite the gap, Wenger believes his side can still win the title but he’s hit out at Arsenal fans that have turned against him by insisting they’re making it harder for the Gunners to succeed.
‘What hurts me is that at the important moment of the season we played in a sceptical environment,’ said Wenger.
‘I think after the Tottenham game where we played a very good game with 10 men against 11 and came back to 2-2, I couldn’t understand why – at the moment when you need everyone behind the team – we had to hit that storm.
‘From the media, OK. From our fans? It is a bit more difficult to take.
‘I never complain about critics, especially when they are turned against me. But we have to get the fans behind us with our attitude, and make sure that they stand behind the team until the end of the season.’
