Jose Mourinho 'signs' Manchester United pre-contract

Reports claim Jose Mourinho will replace Louis van Gaal as the next Man Utd manager in the summer.

With Louis van Gaal's position becoming increasingly untenable at Manchester United, reports in Spain claim Jose Mourinho has signed a pre-contract with the club.
El Pais journalist Diego Torres, who wrote the brilliant The Special One: The Secret World of Jose Mourinho , claims the Portuguese has put pen to paper on a deal to succeed Van Gaal, and the former Chelsea manager is due up to £15m in compensation if he is not appointed by The Reds by June 1.
United held talks with Mourinho's representatives earlier this year and Ed Woodward also contacted his agent, Jorge Mendes, after the embarrassing defeat to Midtjylland.
M.E.N. Sport revealed Mourinho felt he had a gentleman's agreement to manage United and, despite support for Ryan Giggs from former United managers and players, Mourinho remains confident of replacing Van Gaal.
Mourinho has also earmarked Harry Kane as the striker to spearhead United's resurgence.
United's interest in Kane was established last year - as well as their keenness on Romelu Lukaku - however the club acknowledged moves for either striker were unrealistic in 2015.
Kane, 22, is contracted to Spurs until 2020, meaning he would probably cost more than Britain's most expensive player, Angel di Maria, given his age, goalscoring prowess in the Premier League and the fact his chairman is Daniel Levy, one of football's most skilled negotiators.
Fichajes suggests United could also bid for Diego Costa, whose goals secured a third Premier League title for Mourinho at Chelsea.
The 27-year-old is also said to be interesting his former club, Atletico Madrid.
No European football at Old Trafford next season might spur Real Madrid into attempting to sign David de Gea again.
United are apparently interested in Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes , 22, who has a £19.5m release clause.
Michael Carrick rejected 'crazy money' from China to remain at United. Offers are still open to Wayne Rooney.
And Van Gaal believes United need a director of football. Although he might not get to work with one.
